I’ve Lost My Invisalign. What To Do Next.

The ability to remove your Invisalign trays is one of the treatment’s biggest selling points. Without having them cemented to your teeth (like traditional braces), patients are free to take them out when eating or drinking. Not only is it much easier and more natural, but it removes many of the eating restrictions that typically come with orthodontic treatment.

But removable Invisalign trays can be a double-edged sword. Patients are given a carrying case to store their aligners when not in use. This helps prevent loss or damage, but accidents happen. Fortunately, losing your Invisalign is not the end of the world. The situation can be remedied, but you’ll need to act quickly. So whether you’ve lost your Invisalign trays and you’re seeking answers or you just want to prepare for any eventuality, look no further! Noble Orthodontics is here to help.

First, you’ll need to contact your orthodontist immediately. Most practices provide a number to call or text in case of an emergency. If you’re unsure, visit your orthodontist’s website and search for any kind of emergency contact information. Once you’ve gotten through and explained your situation, the doctor will be able to advise you on what to do next. Depending on where you are in your current treatment, they may have to order a new set to prevent you from falling behind schedule.

With that taken care of, take some time to do a deep search for your missing Invisalign. Oftentimes, patients will leave them wrapped up in a napkin, and the trays end up thrown in the trash or shoved into a backpack or purse. Even if you’re unable to find them, patients can safely go without for a few days before their teeth begin to move. Consider keeping your previous set of Invisalign on hand at all times, just in case you lose your current set. That way, you can prevent too much movement while waiting for your replacements to arrive.

Unfortunately, replacements are not cheap. They may cost anywhere from $35 to $300, depending on your provider. Some orthodontists allow a certain number of free replacements, included in the cost of treatment. Be sure to ask your orthodontist about replacement cost and limits.

Here at Noble Orthodontics, we provide our Invisalign Teen patients with up to six free replacements in case of loss or damage. Lost your trays?
