Meet Dr. Jeff Berndt
Dr. Jeff Berndt is an American board-certified orthodontist who approaches orthodontics as both a science and an art. His commitment to making a meaningful impact in his patients’ lives has led him to provide dental care to underserved communities across the globe.
After moving to North Carolina to pursue his specialty in orthodontics, Dr. Berndt fell in love with the special community of Chapel Hill and Carrboro and has practiced here ever since.
His extensive background in both orthodontics and general dentistry has shaped his broad approach to treating not just a patient’s smile, but their oral health as a whole.
Education & Experience
Dr. Jeff earned his Doctorate of Dental Surgery (DDS) at the University of Southern California. He took a break from his studies to practice public health and treat underserved populations for seven years before continuing his education at the University of North Carolina.
At UNC, he completed his post-doctoral residency and received a Master of Science and his Orthodontic Specialty Certificate.
After his three-year orthodontic residency, Dr. Jeff decided to stay in the Chapel Hill area and start his own practice in Carrboro.

Giving Back
After receiving his DDS from USC, Dr. Jeff pursued work in the field of public health so he could continue his commitment to making a meaningful impact in people’s lives. For seven fulfilling years, he practiced dentistry on an American Indian reservation, providing essential care to underserved populations.
Now that he’s developed his specialty in orthodontics, Dr. Jeff remains deeply involved with humanitarian work.
Dr. Jeff is a member of Global Dental Relief, a philanthropic organization that’s allowed him to take his dental skills to remote regions of Nepal, Cambodia, Vietnam, Guatemala, and Ladakh, India, providing dental care to children.
To date, he’s completed over fifteen trips to these regions, gaining invaluable experiences and insights from diverse cultures.
Outside of the Office
The most significant reason for Dr. Jeff to call North Carolina home is his wonderful wife, Ginny, who was born and raised in North Carolina. Together, they have two beautiful children and lead busy lives, balancing family responsibilities with their respective businesses.
Besides his family, Dr. Jeff shares his life with two cherished dogs, Sugar and Woodford. Woodford, a hypoallergenic ambassador of the Noble family, occasionally visits Dr. Jeff’s office.
In addition to his professional and personal commitments, Dr. Jeff actively supports locally-owned businesses and has a passion for golf, hiking, and spending quality time with his family. Together, they stay engaged with the joys of family life while managing their respective businesses.
